p.s. im not sure if the words are all correct but i would appreciate the correct words and all the lyrics and verses to this my favourite of all lullabys . and i wish to be able to sing it correctly to my grand children . i hope u are able to help me i have always wondered about the other verses and correct words . i was taught to sing this at my school when i was 6 yrs of age . and sadly dont remember all the correct words . thank u .

My Mum sung to me ALOT when i lived at home.
Including, but not limited to this lullaby.
I remember it like this.

So sleep my little one,sleep,while
Angels keep virgil, lie warm in your nest

This is a beautiful little song - and there is something especially holy about a child's innocent sleep, which is captured by these words and appropriate accompanying music. I am making my little grand daughter a book of songs for Christmas, and this will be the final one.

I remember with great nostalgia, my mother singing Brahms Lullaby to me in England (where I was born in June 1939), when I was a very young child over seventy years ago. As far as I can recall, the words she sang so beautifully were the following:

Sleep my little one sleep
Fond vigil I keep
Lie warm in thy nest
By moonbeams caressed

When the dawn meets the skies
God will bid thee arise
When the dawn meets the skies
God will bid thee arise

I would be interested to know a) if the above first verses are part of the complete original English translation of the original German lyrics and b) the name of the British translator.
