pirate dreams

The old rocking chair is baby's boat. Adrift on a moon lite sea. And baby and I are the two afloat. All cozy and snug are we. We rock and hum a crooning song.
Like the wind in the sails at sea...............

Need lyrics to the rest of the song. Can you help?

Tracking down childhood memories NEW
by: Troy C Giersdorf

At the end of March 2011, I found a webpage that somebody on the East Coast had made about this poem some five years earlier. That led me to an outfit from whom I thought I was going to be able to get the sheet music. I posted about it on Facebook, but then they were unable to locate it. I sort of forgot about it until it popped back up on my Facebook page as a 9 year old memory.

Yesterday, I did a quick search and found a few YouTube recordings posted - two by female Contralto vocalists. Contraltos with vibrato for a lullaby?!? But, then, I also found Ms. Zerbe's excellent recording. A couple of minor alterations in the lyrics but very nice. Today I dug a little deeper and found an interesting document: https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/musicstudent/62/?utm_source=digitalcommons.unl.edu%2Fmusicstudent%2F62&utm_medium=PDF&utm_campaign=PDFCoverPages
Sing Solo Pirate: Songs in the Key of Arrr!
Pages 97 and 98 are about the lullaby, Pirate Dreams. It seems that the first stanza predates Huerter's composition and the second stanza written by Louise Ayres Garnett.

I learned this song in voice/ music in high school. I sang it to my son when he was a baby and as he grew past the toddler stage.

Pirate Dreams NEW
by: Anonymous

Here are the original lyrics by Charles Huerter:

The old rocking chair is baby's boat,
Adrift on a dreamland sea;
And baby and I are the crew afloat,
All cozy and snug are we.
We rock and hum a crooning song,
Like a wind in the sails at sea;
But pirate dreams before very long
Capture baby and boat and me.

O baby, the chair some day will be
A boat for another pair;
For you with your baby will sail the sea
Within the same rocking chair.
And as we rock and hum and sing,
So you will go singing too,
And pirate dreams with sweep and with swing
Will take Baby and boat and you.

words to "The Old Rocking Chair"
by: Dorothy Zerbe

I heard this song many many times as a child. It's called "Pirate Dreams" actually, and it's by Charles Huerter. I recorded it on my Lullaby CD "Sweetly 'Neath the Moon" the words go
The old Rocking chair is baby's boat
Adrift in a dreamland sea
And baby and mother are the crew afloat
All cozy and snug are we
We rock and hum a crooning song
Like the wind in the sails at sea
But pirate dreams, before very long
Will take baby and boat and me

Oh baby, someday this chair may be
A boat for another pair
And you and your baby will sail the sea
Within this same rocking chair
And as we rock and hum and sing
So you will go sailing too
And pirate dreams, with sweep and with swing
Will take baby and boat and you
