Lullaby, all things that sleep neath the sky

I would really like to find this song. This is the song my mother sang to us as children. Now that she is 91, and very frail, I sing this song to her when I visit her at her nursing home. It is one of the sweetest songs I know of this sort. It goes like this:

Lullaby, all things that sleep neath the sky
Lambs in their folds are asleep
Birdies no longer say cheep
Butterflies through the dark hours
Fold up their wings in the flowers
Bees to their hives homeward fly
Lulllaby
Lu luuuuuuh, ah, lullaby.

There you have it. Would be lovely if someone else out there remembers this song.

Lullaby, all things that sleep 'neath the sky - Mozart
by: Doreen

Hi,

This lullaby is in the Manitoba School Song Book and I remember singing it often as a child in the 1950s. It is listed as being composed by Mozart with the English text by Albert G. Latham.

Unfortunately I can't upload a photo of the lyrics and music but I will type the lyrics for everyone below:

Lulla, lullaby.
All things now sleep 'neath the sky.
Lambs in their fold are asleep.
Birdies no longer say 'cheep'.
Butterflies thro' the dark hours,
Fold up their wings in the flow'rs.
Bees to their hives homeward fly.
Lulla, lullaby.

Lulla, lullaby.
All things in slumber now lie.
Slumber the forest and steep.
Slumber the land and the deep.
Slumbers the wind in the first.
Hark, not a mousikin stirs!
Sleepy stars blink in the sky.
Lulla, lullaby.

Lulla, lullaby.
Shut that rebellious blue eye.
Curl up that tiny pink fist,
Peeping out fain to be kissed.
Sleep, my wee bird in the nest.
Sleep my wee babe on the breast.
Kissing will come by and by.
Lulla, lullaby.

Me too! NEW
by: Sharon B. Toronto, ON

My mom rocked me to sleep with this, we sang it to my four babies as we rocked them to sleep and at this moment I am singing while rocking my youngest of six grandchildren!!!!
I am from Manitoba. Mom thought there were more verses to this but couldn’t remember them.

Misty Eyed NEW
by: Kit Hartley

Yes! At last... but not quite there yet. It seems to have been hot-wired into my wife who sang it to all four of our children. How can I hear it again? I know a version sung by Elizabeth Schwartzcop(Sp?) exists but YouTube are unable to cough it up. Shall keep on trying.

Lullaby, all things that sleep neath the sky NEW
by: Julie

Lullaby
All things that sleep neath the sky.
Over babies wee bed. The angels tread.
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumbers be blessed.
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumbers be blessed.

Sang this version to my children over 50 years ago.

Russian Lullaby NEW
by: Debbie

We sang this in our primary school choir at Edgemead primary Cape Town) in the 80's.
No one else seems to know this song... I happened to be humming it to my baby today when my Russian friend said 'hey, you're humming a Russian lullaby!'. She then played the Russian version for me. It was so beautiful and great to know that it comes from a completely different culture :)

The version I knew
by: Chris

I was talking to a friend about this yesterday. I sang a version of this in my school choir in the 1960's, and it suddenly came to mind, for some uknown reason.

The version I remember is a little different, that may be my memory, or simply that songs change with time when not written down.

Lulay my prince, lullabye
All things now sleep 'neath the sky
Lamb's safely folded are dumb
Bumble-bees no longer hum.
Even a mouse on the stair
Sleeps as if no-one is there
Why should a young baby cry?
Lulay my prince, lullabye
Sing "Hush a lula-lulabye".

Mozart Melody
by: Anonymous

My mom sang this to us as well! A couple of the lyrics were a little different. My German Grandfather used to sing it to her. It is a Mozart melody but I would have to do some research to find the name of the original song. The original lyrics were also different but I believe it was also written originally as a lullaby - I seem to remember something about a "little prince" when I tried to roughly translate the words...
