Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleepy my darling.
When you wake, you shall have,
All the pretty little horses.
Blacks and bays, dapples and greys,
All the pretty little horses.
In the heavens, not so far away
sleeps your lovely little baby.
Deep blue skies, they are his eyes
Worlds of wonder are yet to be.
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleepy my darling.
When you wake, you shall have,
All the pretty little horses.
All the pretty little horses.
Background Information
Hushabye is an adaptation of the traditional African American lullaby “All the Pretty Little Horses.” This song was originally written by a slave who had to leave her own child in the field while she tended to children in the “Big House.” The original verse is:
In the meadow, far away,
lies my poor little baby.
Bees and butterflies are picking at his eyes.
My poor baby’s crying “Mammy.”
As it has always been a song about a mother's pain when separated from her child, it seemed perfect for this album.
The loss of a baby is unimaginably traumatic, private and personal. Those of us close to the grieving family are often lost for suitable words of support, comfort or consolation. Angel Baby Lullabies provides support and comfort to parents and families in their time of bereavement. The music is simple, soft, gentle, and makes a thoughtful and considerate gift during a very difficult time.
