My grandmother sang this song NEW
by: Anonymous

My grandmother born in the 1890’s sang this song to the grandchildren. She was English, Irish and Scots and maybe that has something to do with it. I am now in my 70s and I can still "hear" her singing it to me.

Family tradition NEW
by: Rumbaugh

My grandmother, who is Scotch, Irish and my dad used to sing this to all the babies. I will look for it but never found the origin of the song. I think it to my grandbabies I’m 69. So I know it’s an old old song.

I had never heard it before NEW

Our first little great-granddaughter was born about four months ago and I heard my husband singing that song to her. She would look as him as he sand it and go to sleep. I had never heard it before. Now when I put her to sleep I sing the same song. It is very calming and she goes right to sleep.

Paddy cake
by: Anonymous

"Go to sleep little baby go to sleep I pray when you wake up you'll have a paddy paddy cake & ride a pretty little pony"
My mom used to play with my hair & sing this to me so I could fall asleep when I was little.
Years later I mentioned it to her and sang "you'll have a pancake" and my mom laughed and said that's not how that part goes but I can't believe you remember that you were so little. And now I found the lyrics it's paddy paddy cake not just Pancakes. My mom passed away 6yrs ago when I was 17 and I've been searching for this song ever since I'm now 23 & when my daughter was born (she is 2 now) I would sing it to her as well

Our dad use to sing the first verse to us as long as I can remember. I wondered if I could find it. I looked on google and sure enough I found it. I sent it to all my sibling.

I remember mom would have the radio on for me to go to sleep. This song would come on. I think it was Imogene Coca. I'm 73.

I sang all the words I knew of this to my sons and grandchildren, but didn't know all of them. I just recently heard all the words sung by Judy Canova. Maybe I can learn them all before the great-grandkids start arriving.

My childhood lullaby
by: Kevin

My grandmother sang this to me as a child...only a slight variation...as I remember it was a Chocolate Pony, not a Shiny one.

Nonetheless I spent nearly every weekend at my grandparents house growing up. The song just happened to pop into my head tonight and I thought I would just do a quick search to see what popped up on Google.

I am so glad I did. I was able to get Judy Canova's closing of her radio show in which she sang it. Judy's Wiki page said she learned the song from her mother so its clearly been around a LONG time.

Interesting enough the old recording from Judy's show even sounded like my grandma, which brought tears to my eyes. Here is the link I hope it does for anyone else who was song this as a child.

http://www.otrcat.com/judy-canova-show-p-1473.html

The MP3 was available for download and the song is at the very end of the recording.

I believe this one was sung at the end of every Judy Canova show back in the days of radio.

It must have been written by someone but I don't know who or when.
